GO NUDE THIS PLASTIC FREE JULY

This Plastic Free July, go nude.

Skip plastic-wrapped produce and take WWF-Australia’s plastic free pledge to protect wildlife and reduce waste.

Australia’s Plastic Problem

Australia is the second-highest generator of single-use plastic waste per person in the world. In fact, single-use plastic items and plastic packaging are the most littered item in Australia!

This Plastic Free July, you can pledge to make impactful choices in the supermarket that will keep plastic out of our waterways and protect our marine life from getting entangled or choking on discarded single-use packaging.

We’re calling on Australians to take WWF-Australia’s pledge to go nude to reduce plastic waste and protect our planet.

Every purchase you make sends a message to businesses, and every pledge helps keep plastic out of landfill and away from our wildlife.

It’s time to free the food of plastic!

Single-use plastic packaging, the kind found wrapped around many of our fruits, vegetables and groceries, takes hundreds of years to break down into microplastics in landfill or could be blown into the ocean, causing devastation for marine wildlife.

If you think about it, plastic-wrapped produce is like putting socks on a banana - completely unnecessary. Nature has already given fruits and veggies the perfect outfit: biodegradable, breathable and compostable.

Plastic harms our wildlife

Every year, we use a staggering 147kg of plastic per person, and of this waste, approximately 145,000 tonnes of plastic leak into our oceans and waterways, injuring and killing marine life.

Out at sea, plastic is deadly. Marine animals like turtles can choke on plastic bags mistaken for jellyfish, and seabirds and larger animals like whales can starve because their stomachs are so full of plastic debris they’ve eaten.
