KOALAS FOREVER
Help us double the number of koalas across eastern Australia by 2050.
The koala is the quintessential Australian animal, known globally, much loved and facing a crisis. Koalas already faced potential extinction before the bushfires because of deforestation, but the fires pushed koalas to the brink. WWF-Australia is determined to turn this tragedy around, and we need your help. With the right investments and decisions, our plan is not just to bring koalas back across eastern Australia but to give them the chance to thrive. Plus, for every koala we assist, we help hundreds of other species. We are working to ensure that no injured animal has to travel more than two hours to receive veterinary care. To achieve this, we will need to invest in bolstering the capacity of wildlife hospitals in priority areas, starting with hospital upgrades, a mobile veterinary unit and a new state of the art wildlife hospital. We are engaging in bold and innovative projects including drone seeding to replant and restore koala habitat - connecting a network of wildlife corridors along the east coast to allow koalas to move freely and easily through fragmented landscapes. As a next step, we’re also working with landholders to protect and restore koala habitat on private land by incentivising the creation of koala safe havens and advocating for stronger laws and protections for koalas and the places they call home.
Help us take action where it counts
Help us build a network for their future
In order to protect our koalas of the future, help WWF-Australia build a network of new wildlife and koala hospitals and to expand and modernise an existing koala clinic into a life-saving wildlife surgery.
Restore the Northern Rivers koala corridors with us
Plant a tree. Save a life. We will be planting 100,000 koala habitat trees across 100 km+ of koala corridors. This will vastly improve the ability of koalas and other wildlife to disperse across fragmented landscapes between forested areas.
Help us create new koala habitat corridors via drone direct seeding
A gift from the skies. We’re planting seeds not from the ground, but from above. We will be using innovative, high-tech advancements in technology, to create new koala habitat corridors via drone direct seeding at scale to restore koala habitat.
Creating greatness - help us create the 'Great Koala National Park'
50,000 hectares of new national park in high-priority koala habitat in state forests along the northern coast of NSW.
Aid us in establishing the 'Great Koala Tourism Trail'
Let’s walk the walk. Help WWF-Australia in building a beautiful koala habitat eco-tourism trail from sunny Sydney to the Sunshine Coast.
Building the WWF Land Fund to create new private koala-safe havens
We will support landowners to manage their properties for their natural values to provide a safe haven for koalas.
