WWF-Australia has partnered with Bundaberg Rum to announce the release of a limited-edition ‘Australian Bushfire Regeneration Rum’, to help raise $1 million for WWF’s Australian Wildlife & Nature Recovery Fund.

The rum will be available online and in stores from late March. 100 per cent of profits from the sale of the rum will go to the fund. With a fundraising target of $30 million, the Wildlife & Nature Recovery Fund is designed specifically to support wildlife and habitats affected by the recent devastating Australian bushfire crisis, and more recent flooding.

The Australian Bushfire Regeneration Rum is presented in a new limited-edition bottle, featuring a koala against a backdrop of the Australian bush showing the journey from devastation to regeneration.

The $1 million funds raised through bottle sales will specifically support WWF Australia’s work in partnering with wildlife response organisations, communities and scientists across the country for swift response and recovery at scale, alongside habitat restoration for people and nature, including restoring forests and damaged wildlife habitat, stopping deforestation, cultivating habitat connectivity, and core habitat, Indigenous and rural fire management.

Bundaberg Rum is part of Diageo, a global company with products sold in more than 180 countries around the world. In Australia, Diageo is a contributor to DrinkWise, an independent, not-for-profit organisation focused on promoting change towards a healthier and safer drinking culture. Visit www.drinkwise.org.au  for more information and the facts about alcohol.

Bundaberg Rum has also committed to obtaining 100% of its sugar from sustainable sources, such as Bonsucro-certified sugar.

“We know our Bundy community loves the opportunity to help out a fellow mate during a tough time. The impacted communities, bushland and wildlife really need our help today, tomorrow and well into the future, so we’re delighted to launch this limited edition bottle to help do our bit for the bushfire relief.”

The Bottom Line

The devastating bushfires of 2019/2020 have killed over 1.25 billion animals, including thousands of koalas and iconic species such as kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, cockatoos and honeyeaters. WWF’s Australian Wildlife and Nature Recovery Fund will deploy emergency funds to care for our injured wildlife and now that the fires have cleared, help restore the forest homes our koalas, kangaroos and other animals have lost, by planting and protecting two billion trees by 2030, creating safe corridors for koalas, and helping to implement Indigenous and rural fire management.  The work also assists in future-proofing Australia, including driving solutions to help mitigate climate change, driving climate preparedness, species adaptation and long-term wildlife and nature conservation efforts towards securing Australia’s natural resources for people and nature.
