Bush brokers
Bush Brokers is a partnership between WWF-Australia, the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia, and the National Trust of Australia. With previous assistance from Soil & Land Conservation Council (Western Australia), the Natural Heritage Trust and Lotterywest, the innovative project developed a range of tools for a new way of marketing Australian bushland, through the private sale and purchase of land for conservation.
'Remnant' native vegetation areas (which may be portions of ecosystems or whole ecosystems in themselves) are increasingly like 'islands of biodiversity' in a sea of development in Southwest Australia. Bush Brokers is looking to private owners of bushland, and the real estate agents who broker such deals, to save what little is left.
The Bush Brokers website hosts a notice board for conservation-minded sellers and buyers of bush blocks, listing properties on the market that contain significant areas of remnant native vegetation.
The recently developed Bush Brokers Manual (PDF 1.6 MB) provides information on how to incorporate conservation values into the process of buying and selling Australian bushland.
