Students of NSW to join Earth Hour
20 Mar 2007
On March 30, 2007 the students and teachers of New South Wales will lead by example and demonstrate their commitment to Earth Hour. Students and teachers will turn off lights and appliances during their morning recess and lunch break to show Australia how easy it is to reduce global warming.
With thanks to the Commonwealth Bank, Earth Hour classroom kits titled Switch-Off and Switch-On have been distributed to all primary and secondary schools across NSW. The environmentally-friendly kits will provide students and teachers with useful classroom material and curriculum based activities on current environmental issues.
Switch-Off and Switch-On is a simple action in support of Earth Hour that will make a difference, sending the message that the children of New South Wales care about the future of our planet.
Barbara Chapman, Group Executive HR & Group Services, Commonwealth Bank commented: "We are very proud to support Earth Hour. This is a practical demonstration of how a community can make a positive impact in climate change, and will have long-term benefits.
Greg Bourne, CEO, WWF-Australia commented: "Education is the key to ensuring the next generation is environmentally aware and takes simple but significant steps in their daily life to reduce emissions. By teaching kids about energy-saving habits early, we're improving our chances of making a difference in the fight to combat climate change."
