WWF WELCOMES ALP PLEDGE TO CONTINUE STRATEGIC GROWTH OF NATIONAL PARKS IN NSW

WWF-Australia has commended the environment policy released by the ALP in the New South Wales election campaign.

“The commitment to expand national parks is essential for effective conservation of biodiversity and would continue New South Wales’ leadership in strategic protected area growth,” said WWF CEO Dermot O’Gorman.

WWF-Australia also welcomed Labor’s commitment to retain the state’s strong land clearing laws and put approval power for Commonwealth environment law back in Commonwealth hands where it belongs.

“We urge the ALP if it forms government to expand the protections of the Native Vegetation Act more broadly across the state so that it protects native vegetation from unnecessary or excessive clearing regardless of the purpose of the clearing,” Mr O’Gorman said.
