Appointment of Greg Bourne as CEO of WWF Australia

The Board of WWF-Australia are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Greg Bourne as CEO of WWF-Australia.
WWF-Australia works to preserve and protect Australia's biodiversity, developing science-based solutions to Australia's greatest environmental problems.
With close to 60,000 supporters in Australia, WWF's works to conserve biodiversity by ending landclearing, addressing climate change, and preserving and protecting our freshwater, marine and landscape assets.
The President of WWF-Australia, Robert Purves, said "Greg has outstanding leadership and commercial skills coupled with a deep understanding of the environment. Greg has demonstrated a strong passion for sustainability and environmental issues and shares the view that WWF is the NGO that is best positioned to make a significant contribution to environmental outcomes".
Greg has had a long career with BP PLC having held a number of senior roles including Regional President of BP Australasia.
On accepting the appointment Greg remarked, "This role gives me a unique opportunity to work with a highly committed team of people to address the most significant challenges that affect Australia's environment."
His standing and passion for the environment are currently reflected in his roles as Chair of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Victoria, Board member of Earthwatch Institute (Australia), Chair of NSW Greenhouse Office Advisory Panel, Chair of the CSIRO Sector Advisory Council for the Environment and Natural Resources Management and as a Member of the WA Sustainability Round Table.
Prior associations he has held outside of BP PLC include Chair of the Commonwealth Government's Renewable Energy Action Agenda (2000), Member of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council's study on "Sustaining our Natural Systems and Biodiversity 2002″ and Special Advisor on Energy and Transport to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Greg Bourne's appointment came after an extensive search by the international executive search firm Spencer Stuart. Greg will commence with WWF on 11 October 2004.
