Bring on the prosperous low carbon future

Any indication the US Government may soon make a positive U-turn on its C02 emission reduction policies would be welcomed by WWF.

"Global big business is rushing to provide the solutions to the world's biggest problem - climate change. It won't be a surprise if the US Government moves towards reaping the massive economic benefits of re-engineering the world to a low carbon economy," said WWF-Australia CEO Greg Bourne.

"If the world's largest economy moves to reduce its C02 emissions it will be cheaper and easier to reduce the impacts of climate change.

There are already tremendous opportunities for Australia in a low carbon world, he said.

"We can have a very prosperous future while reducing our emissions and avoiding dangerous climate change - big business here and around the world knows this and they are racing ahead," Mr Bourne said.

"We believe these are just the early days of a global revolution and Australia will soon recognise how huge the opportunities and the how much we could be penalised for failing to see the opportunity early enough," he said.

"The Prime Minister has always said we will move when it is our interests - we think that day has come. A very prosperous low carbon future could be on the way, if we choose to go for it today," Mr Bourne said.
