Q: What businesses does WWF work with in the salmon farming industry?

A: When WWF first started working with Tassal in 2011-2012, they were the only salmon farming company willing to make a commitment to the WWF Global Seafood Charter. WWF continues to work with Tassal but our partnership is not exclusive and we welcome collaboration with other salmon farmers who are prepared to make a serious commitment to improved practices and independent verification by the ASC.

Q: Why does the WWF logo appear on a pack of salmon in the shops?

A: When you see a food product with a WWF logo on the packaging it will only appear together with a credible certification mark, such as the MSC (for wild-caught seafood) or ASC (for farmed seafood, such as Tassal salmon). Our aim is to raise public awareness of certification standards that WWF considers credible and reliable. Because the WWF panda logo is well-known and widely trusted worldwide, we want consumers to know that WWF supports these certifications and that shoppers can trust them.

Q: What has been achieved as a result of the work between WWF and Tassal?

A: As a result of Tassal and WWF working together, Tassal has, since 2012:

* Reduced antibiotic use by 95%;

* Eliminated copper based pollution from anti-foulant on nets;

* Reduced wild-caught fish (‘forage fish’) used for salmon feed by 30%.
