Conservation plan aims to save Australia's only biodiversity hotspot
The Southwest Australia Ecoregion Initiative, led by WWF-Australia and the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation, will today launch the first phase of an Australian Government-funded project that will develop a conservation strategy to preserve Australia's only internationally-listed biodiversity hotspot; a region under significant threat.

Too much to whalers and not enough to conservation in IWC proposals on Japanese whaling: WWF
Two "compromise packages" to end the deadlock on so-called scientific whaling are too much of a compromise according to WWF. Details of the two compromise packages were announced today by IWC Chairman William Hogarth, after speculation last week that a meeting of six IWC member countries (Australia, the United States, Japan, New Zealand, Brazil and Sweden) were working on a plan to break the current deadlock over Japanese whaling.
