BLACKMORES

Australia's leading natural health company, Blackmores, has grown from a family-owned business to one of the leading stocks on the Australian Stock Exchange.

Many of the company's popular vitamin, herbal and mineral supplements are based on natural ingredients, such as fish oils. As the popularity of ’well-being’ grows amongst the Australian public, so too does the demand for ingredients in products related to this area.

Well-being for us is linked to well-being for the planet. As a result, Blackmores worked with WWF up until December 2018 to pursue the highest standards of sustainability for its ingredients. Blackmores is a signatory to the WWF Global Seafood Charter and has made a considerable investment in marine conservation projects.

Partnership wins

Blackmores helped to fund a fisheries improvement project for the Peruvian anchovy fishery, an important global source of fish oils, to improve the fishery and move it towards Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification. WWF considers MSC to be the world's best standard for sustainable wild-caught seafood and vital to the maintenance of ocean health. A further two successful projects supported by Blackmores have now been completed; the tracking of blue whales by satellite to improve the knowledge of this elusive species; and the Ghost Nets project, tackling harmful marine debris in our oceans.

The bottom line

WWF believes that it is possible for humans to live in harmony with nature. In the face of increasing demands for food and nutrition, Blackmores has showed how companies can adopt practices that help to support the biodiversity and health of the land, waterways and oceans that support us.
