Political leaders say yes to reducing carbon pollution

WWF-Australia has today commended Members of Parliament who voted ‘yes’ to putting a price on carbon pollution.

“The vote in the House of Representatives in support of the Clean Energy Future Bills is a historic step towards Australia taking strong action on climate change,” said Dermot O’Gorman, CEO WWF-Australia.

“Today many of our politicians have shown leadership by voting for a reform that is in our national interest.

“This legislation will make significant cuts to Australia’s carbon pollution and encourage other countries to take stronger action so that together we can act to avoid dangerous climate change.

“Australia’s unique places and our wildlife like marine turtles and black cockatoos are under threat from climate change. The time to act is now; we simply cannot afford to delay.

“Australia’s natural wonders like Kakadu, the Great Barrier Reef and our national parks generate billions of dollars for the tourism industry, supporting thousands of jobs.

“Today our MPs have voted yes to creating a stronger economy, yes to new jobs in clean industries and yes to giving our wildlife a fighting chance.

“We urge our Senators to support this reform, and finally bring Australia closer to tackling climate change.”
