Scientist adventurer Tim Jarvis AM has today been announced as a WWF-Australia’s Global Ambassador.

“We are thrilled to partner with such a passionate and celebrated nature advocate.  Tim will work with WWF to promote solutions to our greatest environmental challenges, like climate change.  Tim’s determination and drive for action embody the values that underpin WWF’s work,” said Dermot O’Gorman, CEO of WWF-Australia.

Tim Jarvis, the well-known polar expedition leader holds the record for fastest unsupported journey to the South Pole, and has seen the impacts of climate change first hand.

“Our planet is changing rapidly.  I have been expeditioning to the Arctic and Antarctic for 20 years, so I have seen the effects of climate change.  Glaciers, ice caps, ice sheets and permafrost are melting and sea levels are rising,” said Tim Jarvis.

“The world must respond now with rapid and comprehensive action to avoid more dangerous climate change, and Australia must make its contribution.  Given Australia’s long history of working together to create a better future, I know we are capable of setting a positive example for others to follow.

“All countries must commit to stronger pollution reduction targets at the UN climate conference in Paris next year.  Australia is no exception.  Our future depends on strong global action, and Australia needs to act now.

“Experiencing the splendor and majesty of our planet has been my life-goal.  I am always captivated by the landscapes, wildlife and extremes of our seven continents, but especially by what we have here in Australia.

“When I lead an expedition I am outcome-focused.  I take the same approach to the partnership with WWF-Australia.  We will work together on real, practical solutions that promote a roadmap for the change that we need to see, at all levels of society,” said Tim Jarvis.
